Etsy DDP Poland: DDP Shipping from Poland to the US
If you sell from Poland to US buyers, the setup that works as of mid-July 2026 is a free courier account — DHL Express, UPS or FedEx — with the sender-pays-duties option ticked on every US label. Poczta Polska has not carried goods to the US since August 2025, and Etsy does not sell shipping labels to Polish sellers, so your DDP option has to come from outside Etsy. All three are contract-free, with no volume minimums.
What changed for Poland sellers
- 29 August 2025 — the $800 de minimis exemption ended for every country (EO 14324): every commercial parcel into the US owes duty. Poczta Polska had suspended US-bound goods four days earlier.
- 28 February 2026 — the postal flat fee ended. The $80 / $160 / $200-per-item option is gone; postal duty is ad valorem only.
- 24 June 2026 — CBP made the repeal durable with two interim final rules (2026-12670 non-postal, 2026-12669 postal). Interim, not final, but de minimis is not coming back.
- 1 July 2026 — the EU’s €3 customs duty started on consignments up to €150 entering the EU, charged per tariff line (Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382). It is an import charge; US-bound parcels are unaffected.
- 9 July 2026 — Etsy began expecting a DDP option on orders to US buyers. Not a hard block; the enforcement is financial (below).
- 24 July 2026 — the 10% Section 122 surcharge expires at 12:01 a.m. EDT, and the new postal informal entry process starts that morning. What replaces the surcharge is undecided.
As of mid-July 2026 US duty is the item’s base MFN rate plus that 10% surcharge; many handmade categories sit at 0% MFN, so duty on a $100 item is near $10. It follows where the item was made, not where you post it — put a 6-digit HS code and origin on every US label.
DDP routes from Poland that actually work
Three of these bill duty to your carrier account after clearance; Spring collects it up front.
| Carrier / service | How duties get paid | How to get access | Cost hint (mid-July 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DHL Express Worldwide + Duty Tax Paid (DTP) | Tick “sender pays duties” in MyDHL+; DHL advances the duty and invoices your account. Guests cannot pick DTP | Free business account, NIP required; up to 65% off list | 0.5 kg, zone 5: 596 PLN list + fuel; DTP fee 2% of duties, min 72 PLN. A $100 parcel ≈ 750 PLN at list, 350–450 PLN discounted |
| UPS Worldwide Saver / Expedited, duties billed to shipper | Duty payer set to sender at label creation; UPS advances and bills your payment account | Free account, no contract; needs a payment account | Freight only via the ups.com calculator + Duty and Tax Forwarding Charge 107.50 PLN per shipment (2026 list) + duty |
| FedEx International Priority / Connect Plus, sender covers duties | Recipient pays by default — tick “sender covers” on the waybill; FedEx advances and invoices you | Free account, no volume minimum | Freight via FedEx rate tools (no public list) + Duty and Tax Forwarding Fee — greater of $15 or 2% of duty, tax and MPF up to $800 customs value, $29 or 2% above (since 5 January 2026) |
| Spring GDS Poland (PostNL) — postal PDDP | Duty calculated and prepaid at dispatch; clearance included, USPS last mile | Contract; minimum 100 parcels a month | Quote only; below express as a rule. Parcels to 20 kg, item value to $800 (€680) |
One FedEx trap: the carrier runs two separate fees for fronting duty and most quotes online mix them up. The Duty and Tax Forwarding Fee above is the one that lands on a bill-sender label, where the duty payer sits outside the destination country — that is you. The Disbursement Fee, the greater of $15 or 2% and rising to $17.50 or 2.5% on 20 July 2026, is the other one: it applies when the duty is collected from your US buyer instead. The “2.5%, minimum €15” figure on European FedEx pages is a third thing again — the fee for parcels entering the EU, not leaving it. FedEx keeps the schedule behind an account login, so check the line on your first invoice.

What does not work from Poland
- Poczta Polska — parcels, Global Expres and EMS to the US suspended since 25 August 2025 and still suspended in mid-July 2026. The UPU postal DDP programme was live at two operators in January 2026; Poczta Polska has no date.
- DHL eCommerce / DHL Parcel (non-express) — standard US parcels suspended in August 2025 with other European operators; no restart confirmed publicly.
- Anything inside Etsy — Etsy Shipping Labels are sold only to US, Canadian, British and Australian sellers, so no in-Etsy DDP label exists for Poland. The official integrations don’t help: Packlink’s Etsy integration covers FR, DE, ES and IT; Sendcloud needs a paid plan and an invoice address in AT, BE, FR, DE, IT, NL or ES; Asendia has not confirmed Poland as an origin.
- Meest Post via InPost lockers — the service runs, but DDU only: the recipient pays at delivery, exactly what Etsy now penalises.
- InPost International and GLS Poland — InPost has no US service yet (seven EU destinations, launch announced without a date); GLS ships US-bound but has never publicly confirmed sender-paid US duty.
What Etsy’s DDP expectation means for a Polish shop
Etsy’s 9 June 2026 announcement expects sellers to price in all costs, duties and import fees included, so US buyers pay the full amount at checkout. Since 9 July:
- Purchase Protection no longer covers orders shipped without duties prepaid.
- Payout deductions. Tariffs or collection fees charged to your buyer can be refunded and deducted from you. In one early-July case a German seller’s buyer refused a roughly $300 order after being asked for about $270 at the door.
- Ranking. DDP to the US has sat in Etsy’s ranking disclosures since 16 October 2025 — a likely small effect, but documented.
The tooling has not caught up. There is no DDP toggle in shipping settings: DDP comes with the carrier service you pick, and Etsy’s named DDP carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) are all open from Poland. The Zonos-powered estimator in the listing form only estimates — it pays nothing, still fails on listings with variations, and Etsy disclaims its AI-generated HS codes. Buyer-facing help still opens by telling buyers duties are their responsibility.
Etsy may also recognise exceptions, at its sole discretion, where DDP is “genuinely not available”, if the buyer consents through Etsy Messages and you estimate the charges accurately. From Poland that argument is weak, with three free-account routes open — one of them proven: a Polish scale-model shop has shipped US orders exclusively as FedEx DDP since September 2025.
Sales from Poland to buyers elsewhere in the EU cross no customs border, so the €3 charge never arises there — it applies to goods entering the EU (how the €3 duty works). The US route is the real problem.
FAQ
Can I ship Etsy orders to the US with Poczta Polska? No. Every Poczta Polska goods channel to the US has been suspended since 25 August 2025, with no restart announced as of mid-July 2026. A courier account is the working path.
How much does DDP shipping from Poland to the US cost? For a 0.5 kg parcel holding a $100 item, DHL Express is roughly 750 PLN all-in at list: 596 PLN freight plus fuel, the 72 PLN minimum DTP fee and about $10 of duty at a 0% MFN rate. Discounts of up to 65% make 350–450 PLN realistic. UPS and FedEx are comparable; quote their freight in the carriers’ calculators.
Do I need a registered business to ship DDP from Poland? DHL Express requires a business with a NIP; UPS and FedEx accounts are free, and none impose volume minimums. The rule that catches people out: guest and one-off retail shipping, DHL ShipNow included, never offers sender-pays-duties.
Should I reprice my US listings before 24 July 2026? Not yet. The surcharge lapses that morning and the replacement is undecided: USTR’s proposed Section 301 forced-labour tariffs — 10% for 14 economies, EU member states among them, 12.5% for the other 46 — are still proposals, with no final action or effective date. Ignore logistics sites reporting that Section 122 rose to 15%: no proclamation did that — 15% is the cap the statute puts on a Section 122 surcharge, “not to exceed 15 percent ad valorem” (19 U.S.C. §2132), not the rate in force, which stays 10% until expiry. The list below carries the verified answer on 24 July.
